Mohammed Siraj will replace injured Jasprit Bumrah for the last two matches of the T20I against South Africa, the BCCI announced in a statement on Friday.
“The All India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Siraj as the replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa,” the BCCI said.
“Bumrah suffered a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.”
The remaining two T20Is will be played in Guwahati on October 2 and Indore on October 4.
Siraj has played five T20Is for India, his last T20I appearance came against Sri Lanka earlier this year. The 28-year-old pacer used to play county cricket for Warwickshire.
Bumrah sat out the first T20 against South Africa on Wednesday and a day later flew to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to have his back checked.
BCCI had ruled Bumrah out of the T20 opener against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India training session on Tuesday. BCCI medical team assessed him,” he had said.
Bumrah had already missed the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates last month due to a back injury.
BCCI haven’t confirmed whether Indian spearhead Jaspirt Bumrah is absent from the T20 World Cup or not. If he is ruled out, either Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar, the two bowling pace substitutes for the T20 WC are likely to replace him.
