Surprises abound in Oceanside, South Africa, Salou – Triathlete

It was a wild weekend of racing around the world, full of last minute changes, wins from behind and even a photo-finish. At Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, Canada’s Jackson Laundry stunned everyone in a win from behind, while American Taylor Knibb topped a stacked women’s field to further cement her role as a triathlon powerhouse. The Challenge Salou switched to a duathlon format after a polar blast swept through the region, and Denmark’s Kristian Hogenhaug and Britain’s Fenella Landridge used the opportunity to unleash strong cycling and running performances for victory . In South Africa, Germany’s Daniela Bleymehl made a memorable return to racing after giving birth to her second child last summer beating the women’s peloton by more than 11 minutes; on the men’s side, it was a sweep of the South African podium led by Kyle Buckingham.
