City back Blind Cricket SA team on Pakistan tour

Excitement was in the air as South Africa’s blind cricket team flew to Pakistan for an ODI and Twenty20 series from February 26, 2022.

Ronald Winston Harris, member of the Mayor’s Committee for Community Development for the City of Johannesburg, praised the energy and effort of the team and sent them his best wishes.

“I would like to congratulate Blind Cricket SA for their outstanding efforts. On behalf of the City of Johannesburg, I wish them a wonderful journey, an unforgettable experience and matches throughout their tour of Pakistan. Best wishes and success to Blind Cricket SA.

Blind cricket is one of the most popular sports for the visually impaired in South Africa and around the world. It is one of the few sports that welcomes both totally blind and visually impaired athletes.

“Although this tour will be a difficult journey as many of our players have never played outside of South Africa, we know it will be a fantastic start to the build-up to the World Cup in November,” said Michael de Silver, the coach of Blind Cricket. HER.

Blind cricket, unlike regular cricket, is played using a ball that contains metal ball bearings, which provide sound cues to the players. The stumps are also larger and painted in neon colors, making it easier for visually impaired players to orient themselves.

“It is undeniably an honor to have the support of the City of Johannesburg as an anchor of assistance to our team, the City of Johannesburg has been very helpful in a variety of areas including the branding and transportation. It’s an exciting journey that reflects our young and energetic team with a bright future,” said Isaac Bidla, Chairman of Blind Cricket SA.

Buhle Bidla, the captain of Blind Cricket SA, said they were excited and looking forward to competing with other teams on the Pakistan tour.

“These tours are important and we would love to have more of them as they can raise the profile of blind cricket in South Africa and make it more accessible to people from different backgrounds and communities across the country,” said Bidla junior.
