Son of AB de Villiers: Who is Baby AB in Cricket South Africa?

Baby AB in Cricket: The uncapped South African player has launched a bidding war in the 2022 Indian Premier League auction.

Uncapped South African striker Dewald Brevis has become the second cricketer to be bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2022 Indian Premier League mega auction.

Indians, the top performing IPL team, tend to buy inexperienced players with potential to turn them into world class players. Despite being very inactive other than buying out Ishan Kishan for a record sum, Brevis’ plethora of talent seems to have impressed MI.

For those unaware, Brevis was declared the man of the series at the recent ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. In six innings of the World Event, Brevis had scored 506 runs with an average and strike rate of 84.33 and 90.19 respectively.

To put it in a nutshell, Brevis had led the standings in most runs (506), most half-centuries (3), most hundreds (2), most fours (45), and most six (18) from the 2022 U19 World Cup.

Brevis, who was among the hottest names at the U-19 World Cup, had impressed everyone with his eye-catching display at bat. The right-handed hitter is often compared to former South African captain AB de Villiers due to the variety of innovative shots he plays on a cricket pitch.

Hence, was even nicknamed “Baby AB” in the cricket fraternity. For those who assume that Brevis and de Villiers are related, it should be noted that Brevis is in no way related to de Villiers. de Villiers and his wife Danielle de Villiers have two sons and a daughter but each of them is young enough to compete in the IPL.

Brevis, 18, played a few T20s for the South Africa U-19 scoring 62 points at a strike rate of 167.56.
