ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

Finalizing roles and improving situational awareness will be a priority for West Indies Under-19 head coach Floyd Reifer as his team take on South Africa’s Under-19s in a four-game series in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Boxing Day. .

The series, comprising more than 50 matches, will be played at Arnos Vale Stadium and Cumberland Playground, with fixtures also on December 28, December 30 and January 3.

And Reifer said the tour would be essential in helping the Rising Stars put the finishing touches on their preparation for the start of next month’s International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean.

“It’s great for us to have these games as part of the preparation for the World Cup,” said Reifer.

“We are really looking forward to this series against South Africa as we are at a point where it is important for the team to play together, to see players in various roles, to see how they react to situations and to how well they execute the plans we put in place.

The West Indian Under-19s have spent the past six months intensively preparing for the ICC Under-19 World Cup January 14 to February 5 for Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts -and-Nevis and Guyana.
