The National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) of Morocco and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed an additional financing agreement of 18 million euros to ensure the sustainability and security of the supply of drinking water in several regions of the Kingdom.
This additional financial assistance will contribute, with the loan of 115 million euros already mobilized in 2018, to finance a program aimed at sustaining and securing the supply of drinking water to the cities of Al Hoceima, Tangier, Guercif, Beni Mellal and Zagora. , specifies the Bureau in a press release.
The agreement provides for the delivery of raw water from the “Ghriss” dam project to the Al Hoceima treatment plant, the delivery of raw water from the “Ibn Battouta” dam to the Mharhar / Tangier treatment plant. , as well as the strengthening of water production in the Guercif region from the future “Targa Ou Madi” dam, the treatment capacity of the Beni Mellal region, and water production in the Zagora region. from the future “Agdez” dam.
The projects are part of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program 2020-2027 (PNAEPI), the agreement of which was signed on January 13, 2020.
The collaboration between ONEE and the ADB in the drinking water and liquid sanitation sectors dates back to 1978 with a total financial contribution from the ADB of around 9 billion dirhams.
