Johannesburg police rescue 50 people held against their will in house

JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg Central Police are still trying to establish the exact circumstances after rescuing a group of 50 people from a house in Zacharia Park near Lenasia, held against their will.

The individuals were brought to South Africa under the false pretext of being reunited with their families.

Nationals are between 12 and 50 years old.

A 49-year-old suspect has since been arrested.

“It is reported that these people were brought to South Africa to be reunited with their families living in the country but upon their arrival the person who transported them demanded money from their families before their release. They are currently awaiting treatment by the Department. internal affairs and some members of their families have been notified. The suspect will appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, ”police spokeswoman Brenda Muridili said.
