SA records less than 1,000 new COVID cases and 51 additional deaths

The Health Department said on Sunday that 967 tests came back positive in the last reporting cycle.

JOHANNESBURG – For the first time in a long time, South Africa has recorded less than a thousand COVID-19 infections within 24 hours.

The Health Department said on Sunday that 967 tests came back positive in the last reporting cycle.

Sadly, 51 more deaths were recorded during the same period, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 to 87,052.

On the vaccine front, more than 16.8 million jabs have been administered so far.

The government is trying to ensure that at least 70% of the population is vaccinated by the end of the year.
