the Curry cup correspondence between the Sharks and Bulls, scheduled for Wednesday at Kings Park in Durban, has been canceled.

SA Rugby said in a statement the match was called off due to security concerns at KwaZulu-Natal, with a decision on the outcome and log points to be made at a later stage.

In a separate correspondence, the Bulls explained their reasons for not completing the game.

“We had long discussions with the guys from Sharks and SA Rugby regarding the game, and we all agreed that the cancellation would be safer and better, not only for us in the rugby industry, but for the game as well. KZN emergency personnel, ”said Edgar Rathbone, the CEO of the Bulls.

“Police and security companies and other emergency services have their hands full right now. We think the last thing they need to worry about is a rugby game.”

The Sharks’ Currie Cup prospects have been badly affected by the unrest, as evidenced by no less than three of their home games which have now been called off.

As a sign of goodwill, the Bulls have agreed to play the second leg between the two teams, scheduled for August 6, at King’s Park instead of Loftus.

“We fully understand the pressure on the Sharks at the moment, with three of their last home games being called off, so we have agreed to play the second leg in Durban,” said Rathbone.

Elsewhere, competition will continue, with a brace scheduled for Wednesday.

The Lions welcome Griquas to Johannesburg at 2:30 p.m., while the Cheetahs entertain Western Province in Bloemfontein at 4:45 p.m.

The top-of-the-table Pumas are not in action on Wednesday but will be closely following games in Johannesburg and Bloemfontein to see how the results influence the ranking.
