Inventory management accountant – IT-Online

A Cape Town-based multinational corporation is looking for an Inventory Accountant to join its successful finance team.

Within: Chief Financial Officer: Retail

Qualifications: Diploma in Finance (Major in Management / Cost Accounting)

Live: At least three to five years of experience in a management accountant role in a medium to large retail environment. Inventory experience essential.

Required Skills: * Analytical thinking

* Working knowledge of an ERP system (preferably Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central)

* Working knowledge of inventory costs in a retail environment

* Knowledge of imports and currencies preferable

* Excellent communication skills

* Highly skilled in Excel


  • Consumption and aging of stocks
  • Update the standard cost of consumables
  • Analysis and reconciliation of the cost of sales variance account
  • Reconciliation of accounts payable on consignment
  • Manage imports
  • Forex hedging and banker liaison
  • Manage the relationship with a freight forwarder
  • Reconciliation of supplier prepayments (local and imports)
  • Provisioning and reconciliation of inventory losses
  • Half-yearly inventory count and reconciliation with the general ledger
  • Reconciliation of consumables stocks
  • Marketing inventory reconciliation
  • Management of inventory debts
  • Warehouse KPI report
  • Calculation of the monthly provision for inventory obsolescence
  • Weekly sales reports and other reports
  • Investigate anomalies
  • Ad hoc projects
